The Australian Silver Kookaburra is the first silver bullion coin to be produced by the Perth Mint, Australia, and has been in circulation since 1990. The largest kingfisher in the world was selected as the motif, and the “Australian Kookaburra” coin is popular both as a bullion coin and as a collector coin. The image of the Kookaburra on the front changes each year; the back bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Since 1991, the 1-ounce Kookaburra has been joined by 2-ounce and 10-ounce denominations, as well as the 1 kilogram coin. The nominal value of the silver coin is between 1 and 150 Australian dollars, depending on the fine weight and year of mintage. The Silver Kookaburra enjoys the status of legal tender in Australia.
