Since 2008 the Austrian Mint has also been minting the Vienna Philharmonic in silver. It is the first silver bullion coin with a euro face value. Like the gold Philharmonic, the face of the coin features instruments from the world-famous orchestra. The organ of the Vienna Musikverein appears on the back. To prevent counterfeits or confusion the coin bears the word “Silber” below the “Wiener Philharmoniker” lettering. In addition, the edge is not grooved. The silver Philharmonic has a face value of 1.50 euros and is legal tender.
